What is Microsoft Toolkit ?
Microsoft Toolkit is a comprehensive utility tool primarily used to activate or obtain a license for Microsoft products such as Windows and Office. This toolkit has been around for a significant period, predating the introduction of the Key Management Service (KMS) technology, which is commonly used in software activation today. Originally known as EZ Activator, it was specifically designed for older versions of Windows, including XP, 7, and Vista.
As activation methods evolved, Microsoft Toolkit adapted by integrating KMS Server technology into its system. This update enabled the tool to provide activations for a wider range of products, from newer Windows editions to various Office packages. Following this upgrade, the name changed from EZ Activator to the more versatile Microsoft Toolkit.
By using Microsoft Toolkit, users can simulate the KMS network on their computers, enabling them to achieve permanent activation for Windows and Office products. This tool also functions as a Key Generator for these products, meaning it can create license keys that allow users to unlock different editions of Windows and Office software.
Notably, Microsoft Toolkit remains free of charge and open-source. Developed by CODQX4, the source code is publicly available for those interested in customization or further development. Given its flexibility, Microsoft Toolkit is widely regarded as a reliable, all-in-one solution for Microsoft product activation without requiring a subscription or payment.
Key Features of Microsoft Toolkit
Microsoft Toolkit comes with a range of features designed to facilitate the activation of Microsoft products. Here’s a breakdown of some of its most notable features:
1. Two-in-One Tool
- Microsoft Toolkit is designed to function as a dual-purpose utility, allowing it to serve as a single solution for activating both Windows and Office. The tool is equipped with two modules—EZ Activator and KMS—each tailored for specific functions within the toolkit.
2. Permanent Activation
- Thanks to the integration of KMS technology, Microsoft Toolkit provides users with a permanent license. It installs a virtual KMS server on the user’s computer, and every 180 days, it automatically renews the activation. This process ensures the software remains licensed without requiring manual intervention.
3. Genuine Keys
- Microsoft Toolkit uses the KMS Server technique, which mirrors Microsoft’s own activation process, making it challenging to detect. Consequently, the tool is able to issue licenses that appear genuine, allowing users to receive regular updates and maintain software security.
4. Offline and Online Activation
- The toolkit’s dual-module feature enables it to function both offline and online. Users without a consistent internet connection can still activate their software offline, though the online mode offers additional features and benefits.
5. Completely Free
- Microsoft Toolkit provides a free, accessible solution for those looking to license their Windows and Office software. There are no hidden costs, subscriptions, or limitations on the number of computers it can be used on, allowing users unrestricted activation across devices.
6. Safe to Use
- Microsoft Toolkit is verified to be free of viruses and trojans. The download link provided on trusted websites has been thoroughly scanned to ensure user safety. While some antivirus programs may flag the tool due to its KMS technology, this is typically a false alarm related to the activator function rather than actual malware.

This guide will take you through the steps to prepare, extract, and use the toolkit for Windows activation.
Important Note:
Before you proceed, it’s crucial to disable Windows Defender or any third-party antivirus software, as these programs may block the toolkit from functioning correctly. Here’s how to temporarily turn off Windows Defender:
- Go to the Start Menu.
- Search for Windows Defender and open it.
- Select Virus & Threat Protection.
- Click on Manage Settings under Virus & Threat Protection Settings.
- Turn off Real-Time Protection using the switcher.
Step-by-Step Guide to Using Microsoft Toolkit
Step 1: Extract the Toolkit
- Locate the Downloaded File: Go to your Downloads folder or wherever you saved the Microsoft Toolkit file.
- Extract the File: Since Microsoft Toolkit is in a compressed format (typically a .zip file), right-click on the file and select Extract or use a tool like WinRAR or 7-Zip to extract it.
At this time, you will see another folder appears, so open that folder and then extract the Zip file again, but this time, you will be asked to enter a password.
Now open a text file there, and you will find that password. Just copy it and paste it to the password section to extract it.
Once this process is done, you will notice the Microsoft Toolkit.exe tool appears there, so double-click on the icon.
Step 2: Open Microsoft Toolkit
- Access the Toolkit Folder: After extraction, open the folder containing Microsoft Toolkit.
- Run Microsoft Toolkit as Administrator: Right-click on the Microsoft Toolkit executable file (.exe) and choose Run as Administrator. This ensures the tool has the necessary permissions for activation.
Step 3: Activate Windows
- Choose the Windows Icon: In the main Microsoft Toolkit window 11 ,, you’ll see two icons—one for Windows and another for Office. Click on the Windows icon to access Windows activation options.
- Go to the Activation Tab: Once inside the Windows toolkit menu, navigate to the Activation tab.
- Select Activation Method: Choose EZ Activator as the activation method. This method is straightforward and automates the activation process for your convenience.
- Start Activation: Click on EZ Activator to begin the activation process. Microsoft Toolkit will establish a local KMS server on your machine and activate Windows. This process may take a few moments.
Step 4: Confirm Activation
- Check Activation Status: After activation, you’ll receive a confirmation message indicating that Windows has been successfully activated.
- Verify Activation: To double-check, go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation. Here, you should see a message indicating that Windows is activated.
When you double-click it, you will be asked for the Administration request, so click Yes to allow this app to run.
This app will appear on your screen now from the right-hand side below. Click on the Windows logo near Settings.
After this, you will see the menu appears for Windows, so from the above menu, select Activation.
In this section, two menus appear Activation/Tool Selection and Activation/Licensing features. So, the first menu is for the KMS service, while the second is for the EZ Activation.
In this case, you can directly install AutoKMS using the first menu or use the EZ Activator method.
I will use the AutoKMS method as it is one of the best and is fast and straightforward simultaneously, so I choose AutoKMS from the Tools section and then click the Install button.
This process will take a few seconds, and you can see the Infor mation Console section to check the progress. If you see that AutoKMS was successfully installed, you are done here; otherwise, install it again and try to use it with an internet connection.
Alternatively, if you don’t want to install AutoKMS or use EZ Activator, go with the product keys method. From the above menu, open the Product keys section; from the Product list, choose the windows you are running along with the edition.
If unsure about the edition, click the Check button and see it in the information console. Now, after choosing the Product and edition, click the Install button. It will take a while, and you will again receive the message Product key installation successfully.
That’s it. You have successfully got the license for your Windows, which is now activated successfully. However, this doesn’t apply to the Office as you have to follow different steps that you can find in the below section.
Get a License for Office using Toolkit for Microsoft.
Since you already know the process to activate Windows, you might be wondering how to get a license for Office. Well! If so, you should follow this simple guide and instantly get the product key for Microsoft Office.
Please make sure you are using Office versions 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, or 2016 as it only supports these products till now. There is no option for the 360 users, so you need to install KMSPico and use it on your machine.
Ok, so enough talk. Let’s head to the activation section below:
Now extract the zip file and then from the note file, copy the password and again the zip file located there and then double-click Microsoft Toolkit.exe and select Yes when asked. If you have already extracted the files, you are good to go; otherwise, open the folder where you download this tool.
2. Once this tool is launched on your Windows, you must select the Office icon from the below menu near Settings.
3. Here, it will launch the instructions for the Office, so in the Main Menu section, you will see Office Uninstaller for those who want to obliterate it. Other than this, two more menus are available, Activation & Product keys. Just open one of them.
4. In the Activation section, you will see the same EZ Activator and AutoKMS method; in the product keys, you can get it for a single Office app like Word, Excel, Access, or PowerPoint.
5. So open the Activation section, select AutoKMS from the Tools section, and click on the Install button.
6. Now wait for a while unless you see the message AutoKMS was successfully installed from Information Console.
That’s it now that Microsoft Office is successfully activated, and you can use it as a premium version. You won’t see any trial days, or the features will also be unlocked. This is the simplest way; however, you can still go with the Product key section if you want to.

Microsoft Toolkit is the best tool available out there for both Windows & Microsoft Office. However, it supports almost all editions and versions of WinOS, while it is only used for the 2016 version of MS Office. Other than this, by reading this guide, you can easily install and use it.
